This came to me on a homeschool chat group in our state. I wanted to pass this on to you. This is great news for homeschoolers.

Dear homeschooling friends

Please see below for an announcement from the office of Federal Student Aid at the US Department of Education. We have two new student grants to help pay for college, and we are offering a "webinar" to teach school counselors about them. Since most homeschoolers don't have school counselors, we wanted to open this online training to parents (and students) so you can learn about the programs.

Academic Competitiveness Grant and National SMART Grant Webinars
March 6 and March 29, 2007

The U.S. Department of Education's office of Federal Student Aid is pleased to invite you to an information session on the new Academic Competitiveness Grant (ACG) and National Science and Mathematics Access to Retain Talent (National SMART) Grant. The session will be offered via webinar (online seminar) on Tuesday, March 6, 2007 and then again on Thursday, March 29, 2007. Both webinars will take place
from 1:00-2:00 P.M. Eastern Time.

Claire "Micki" Roemer, Federal Student Aid's General Manager of School Services and Training, will present an overview of the ACG and National SMART Grant programs, explaining who is eligible, how a student applies, and how much money he or she can receive. There will
be time for questions and answers at the end of the session.

You may register for the webinar at
www.ed.gov/offices/OSFAP/training/index.html.

Meanwhile, you can start familiarizing yourself with the ACG and National SMART Grant by visiting our counselor-focused web site at

www.fsa4counselors.ed.gov

and clicking on "Grants" at the left side of the page.

Be sure to explore other areas of the counselor site to access a PowerPoint presentation you can use at financial aid nights; a video introducing your students to the federal student aid programs; information about upcoming college fairs; and a link to our free publication ordering service.

We look forward to your participation in the webinar and hope you will find it to be an effective way to learn about the new grant programs.

Sincerely,

Jennifer Douglas
