I had been talking with my daughter on the issue of horses not being able to throw-up & clear their stomachs of any problem foods, etc. when she asked if pigs could throw up. I'm not sure why she wants to know, but I'm trying to find out.

One website I found says that they can, while another says that they can't.

Would any of you know?

TIA.

Godspeed.

I haven't found out the answer but I found this really neat site on the History of Pigs. I just thought I would share it.

Thanks Bartii. It's a pretty neat site. I did find out from somewhere else that pigs can throw up, and from what I've been told, it's not pretty.

Thanks for looking for me.

I know that we have this all figured out about pigs but here is some extra information that I received.

I asked my aunt to ask her husband what, who has a doctorate and PHd. in Veterinarian medicine and this is what he stated-

1. Horses do not throw up their food. Their esophagus is too narrow to do so. Whenever they have irritated stomachs, it commonly deteriorates into what is known as colic with gas. Also, stomach problems will cause them to have diarrhea.

2. Cows do not throw up, they bring up predigested food. It's called regurgitation. Bob mentioned something about them having a stomach and also a pre-stomach (abomasum?) where they pre-digest their food and then bring it back up again for a second time around of chewing "chewing their cud".

3. However, pigs can throw up...their stomachs more closely resemble that of the human stomach.
