OAKLAND, Calif. Cheap Carolina Panthers Jerseys . -- Bradley Beal scored 18 of his 20 points in the second half, and John Wall had 15 points and eight rebounds to lead the Washington Wizards past the Golden State Warriors 88-85 on Tuesday night. Washingtons terrific tandem outplayed and outhustled Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson when it mattered most in a matchup of two of the NBAs best young backcourts. Beal, who was 1-of-7 shooting in the first half, finished 8 of 19 from the floor to go with seven rebounds and four assists. Wall hit a tiebreaking 3-pointer with 1:28 remaining, and the Wizards forced the Warriors into several difficult shots in the closing moments. Stephen Curry scored 23 points before missing a contested left-handed 3-pointer as time expired, and Thompson had 13 points and six rebounds for the streaky Warriors. OAKLAND, Calif. -- Golden State Warriors coach Mark Jackson said before his team faced the Washington Wizards on Tuesday night that John Wall deserved to be on the Eastern Conference All-Star team. He may want to add the other half of Washingtons terrific backcourt tandem, too. Bradley Beal scored 18 of his 20 points in the second half, and Wall had 15 points and eight rebounds while making some big plays late to lead the Wizards past the Warriors 88-85. "I just kept shooting. I had amnesia, and I wasnt getting down on myself in the first half because I got good looks and I was taking what the defence was giving me and the shots that I wanted," Wall said. "I didnt lose my confidence or anything like that. I knew in the second half I had to step up for this team to be able to win." In a matchup of two of the NBAs best young backcourts, Washingtons guard duo outplayed and outhustled Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson when it mattered most. "It wasnt a pretty game by either team Im sure offensively, but these are the kind of games our defence can win for us," Wizards coach Randy Wittman said. Stephen Curry scored 23 points before missing a contested left-handed 3-pointer as time expired, and Thompson had 13 points and six rebounds for the streaky Warriors, who have lost six of nine since winning 10 in a row. "Weve got to be better," Jackson said. "The very good teams or the great teams in this league, they take care of their business. And right now were a team (that) if a championship-calibre team comes in here or an elite team comes in here, we play at that level. Or if a bad team or an average team comes in, then we play at that level. We are not good enough to allow who comes in here to determine how hard we play." Both teams shot under 38 per cent and were often careless with the ball. The Warriors committed 19 turnovers, while Washington had 18. In the end, the Wizards were a little crisper. Beal shook off his slow start to make three consecutive 3-pointers at the beginning of the fourth quarter to give Washington a 75-68 lead. The Warrriors came back quickly, with Thompson connecting from beyond the arc to cap a spurt that put the Warriors up 79-77. After Washington went ahead by five, Curry hit a 3-pointer that brought most of the announced sellout crowd of 19,596 roaring to its feet. Golden State stopped the Wizards after a timeout, and then grabbed two offensive rebounds before Thompson found David Lee for a layup that tied the score at 85 with 1:47 to play. Wall came back with a 3-pointer off a rebound, and then Andre Iguodala air-balled a 3 for the Warriors on the other end. Washington missed a major chance when centre Marcin Gortat, who also lost two rebounds in the final minutes, missed a wide-open layup after securing a rebound. It didnt matter. Curry missed another shot from long range, and the Wizards grabbed the rebound -- but blew another chance to put the game out of reach. After stopping Washington and calling timeout with 6.1 seconds left, the Warriors wasted the final possession, with Curry picking up his dribble and forcing a left-handed leaner around Trevor Ariza that sealed Washingtons win. Curry shot 8 of 23 from the floor, and Thompson finished 5 for 17. "We didnt do enough to separate ourselves and were at the mercy of some missed shots down the stretch that decided the game," Curry said. "Just a bad performance, and really disappointing." NOTES: The Warriors had won six straight over the Wizards, including the only other matchup this season, a 112-96 victory at Washington on Jan. 5. ... The Wizards recalled G Glen Rice from the Iowa Energy of the NBA Development League. Rice, who was not in the active lineup, is averaging 2.9 points and 10 minutes in 11 games with the Wizards. ... Austin does not believe the game-time temperature is going to be an advantage for either side heading into the Grey Cup. "We dont think about (the cold)," said Austin. "Im not even sure how you would determine an advantage. DETROIT -- The banged-up Pittsburgh Penguins took another hit. They just hope its not a big one. Evgeni Malkin had a goal and two assists before hurting his left leg early in the third period of Pittsburghs 4-1 win over the Detroit Red Wings on Saturday night. "He was walking around after the game," Penguins coach Dan Bylsma said. Malkin was in fact walking, but with a noticeable limp. He got tangled up with Detroits Luke Glendening, lost his balance and his left skate took the brunt of a collision with the boards behind Pittsburghs net. Malkin slowly got up and kept his left skate in the air as he was helped off the ice. He was called for holding on the play, but couldnt serve the penalty because he was being evaluated. Malkin moved past the 600-point mark for his career during the game and ranks among league leaders with 41 points this season. NHL scoring leader Sidney Crosby scored two goals to help the Penguins win without standout defenceman Kris Letang, who was a late scratch because of an upper-body injury. "Losing Kris before the game was tough," Crosby said. "We stuck with it and found a way." Pittsburgh defenceman Brooks Orpik hasnt played since being punched Dec. 7 by Bostons Shawn Thornton, who was suspended by the league for 15 games on Saturday. The Penguins might lose another player from their blue line because the NHL is trying to crack down on blows above the shoulders. Defenceman Deryk Engelland put himself in danger of being suspended for an illegal hit to the head. Engelland landed his right shoulder high on Detroit forward Justin Abdelkader late in the first period and was ejected with a match penalty. Abdelkader struggled to get up, had to be helped off the ice and didnt return. "He dumps it in and I try to finish my check," Engelland said. "Obviously Im not trying to hit him in the head or anything like that, but I think I catch his chin a little bit before his body." Detroit defenceman Brendan Smith was suspended for five games two years ago for a similar hit. "I know what it feells like because Ive been in that position," Smith said. Cheap Panthers Jerseys. "Its a quick game, things happen." Pittsburghs Jeff Zatkoff made 28 saves, getting the start in part because he was playing near his hometown of Sterling Heights, Mich. "He was pretty pumped up about playing back here at Joe Louis against the Red Wings," Bylsma said. "He was strong." Jonas Gustavsson gave up three goals on 13 shots through two periods, playing in place of injured starter Jimmy Howard, and finished with 21 saves. "When you let four goals in its tough to win," he said. "I got to be better." The Red Wings got off to a good start. They went ahead 1-0 at 6:09 of the first period when Niklas Kronwalls shot just inside the blue line went off Crosbys stick, bounced off the ice and got past Zatkoff. The lead didnt last long. Detroit went to the penalty box twice midway through the first period and the NHLs top team on the power play took advantage. Crosby scored at 9:08 of the first and Malkin made it 2-1 at the 12:50 mark of the period. The Red Wings outshot Pittsburgh 14-4 in the second, which started with them on the power play for four-plus minutes because of Engellands penalty, but didnt score. "We didnt do enough with it," Detroit coach Mike Babcock said. "We had some looks. Their guy made some saves, but we were perimeter on the power play. Power play is establishing a net-front presence, shooting the puck and getting it back and outworking them to get retrievals and be on top of them." Olli Maatta gave Pittsburgh a two-goal lead in the final minute of the second period. Crosby, who started the night with an NHL-high 44 points, scored his second goal with five-plus minutes left. "We started well on the power play and then were able to shut them down on the five-minute power play," Crosby said. "That was an important part of the game." NOTES: Bylsma (U.S.) and Babcock (Canada) will lead their countries in two months at the Winter Olympics. ... Penguins D Brian Dumoulin made his NHL debut.
