Howdy Guys!

Like most of you, I have a home-based business. I've got a den where I do all my work, etc. I'm trying to get some ideas because it seems that when my wife & daughter (6) are home, there are constant interruptions, loud noises from down below, etc.

I find it difficult to separate home & work life. So I thought I'd come on here and ask you all for your suggestions.

Thanks.

Ed, I know what you mean. I can get much accomplished between 12am - 3am when the rest are asleep!

I think you need to establish some rules with them. My kids know that when my office door is closed, they do not interupt unless they're hurt or there's a fire.

For the noise, thats something you may have to ask them to keep it down or learn to tune it out. If it is something where you hear it and wonder if you need to investigate to see what happened, maybe then you may need to learn to trust that your wife would take care of the situation. Then keep on working.

I hope that helps.
Mark

I have exactly the same situation at my house. I work in the basement (I have a small screen printing shop) and when I'm actually printing, the noise isn't bothersome because I'm moving around alot, and making a little noise of my own. However, I spend alot of time on my computer designing the artwork for my printing jobs, and this can be distracting. I came to realize that its most distracting when there's no noise in the basement whatsoever, so I usually have my Windows media player open and playing something. I hate FM radio because of the commercials, and lack of new music. AM is ok in the morning when Boortz is on, but after that I will find a station on WMP to listen to. Even if I'm not consciously listening to it, it keeps me from paying so much attention to the noise my 3 kids, 2 dogs, and 1 wife make. Also, WMP stations are usually commercial free, or near commercial free... and no, I don't pay for them, I will find a free station.
