My dd (7 1/2) loves science, anything to do with science. So, in our conversations about this summer, we have decided to make it the "Summer of Science". Biology, Physics, Chemistry, etc, we want to touch it all. Our plan is to have at least one experiment every day (should be interesting).

Included in our plans will be a pond survey from a local state park, examining water samples under a microscope (which she got for Christmas), identifying trees, animals, etc.

Anyhow, I wanted to see if any of you wonderful folks had some ideas that we can incorporate into our study.

Thanks.

Godspeed,
Ed

These may be silly

Sound Experiment

1) Get a string (Not wool or yarn) about 3.5 feet long.
Wrap the strings around your index finger 3-4 times - at the first join from the tip of the finger. Bend over and put your finger tips in your ears very deeply. Hang a wire hanger on it string and then tap it with something mettle. The sound "ting" sound will travel up the string into your fingers and into your ears and into the bone in your head and your whole head will feel like it is filled with the sound. It does not hurt the ears at all.

Pressure - This will paralyze the kids because the air pushing on them trying to get into the bag.

2) Get a large Garbage bag - A leaf size Or Lawn bag is best. Get the kids to sit inside it with their arms crossed across their tummy, and legs together- and you pull it up to their shoulders - Close off all the gaps you can in the opening. Put in the vacuum cleaner hose to suck out all the air (Be care full around their neck of course) The kids will literally not be able to move at all - no matter how hard they try. The pressure is to great. I put in a very tiny stepping stool for them to sit on. They can not stand up at all in the bag. The pressure is to great. They can sit on a chair After they are in the bag I suppose. But moving will be impossible.

Let me know how you enjoy them.
